In 1987 I bought the rights from Sir Gavin Lyle of Glendelvine to make this Limited Edition of 12 reproductions and had sold 8 before going abroad for many years.
Cast in fibreglass and hand painted by George Jamieson in Edinburgh each fish comes in a rectangular glass case with three hanging items framed under glass:
The famous photograph of Miss Ballantine with the great fish.
The story of the capture of the fish by Miss Ballantine from the book 'Fragments', along with a photograph of her and her father, ghillie on the day, with the fish hanging between them.
The Limited Edition Certificate.
Locations of the other fish have proved immensely popular, such as the one in Perth Museum.
The new owners of the Dowans Hotel at Aberlour on the Spey managed to secure one of the original 8 fish for the beginning of the 2004 season and have found it to be a great investment, bringing many people to the hotel from afar to see it and read Miss Ballantine's account.
So too has the fishing tackle shop of John Norris at Penrith, where another British Record Salmon is on display.
The glass case measures 62 1/2" wide by 25" high by 7" deep
The two smaller hanging items each measure 16 1/2" by 14"
The longer hanging item measures 44" by 12 3/4"
I received the first of the four fish from George Jamieson on Thursday November 11th.
It was purchased on Monday November 15th 2004.
Each fish take 8 weeks to complete and as of December 15th 2004 - NOW SOLD OUT.
Once the twelfth has been sold the mould will be destroyed - the edition is limited to twelve only.
