463.An extremely rare Hardy Transitional Brass Salmon Perfect 4 ¼” (measures 4 3/8”) with alloy reel frame. The brass face having raised circular centrepiece with ‘Hardy’s Pat’s No’s 18373–612 Alnwick’ stamped into circular sleeve around central well and with Rod in Hand and Enclosed Oval logos. The dished brass drum having large and small perforations and large central well. The alloy frame having four dished pillars (small corrosion ‘chip’ to alloy rim, of little consequence). 
Smooth brass foot, ivorine handle and brass strap over rim tension device. The check mechanism has been altered from the original to the 1906 check and some of the fixing holes from the original still remain. Open ball race with 16 phosphor bronze balls filling some 65% of the race. The brass drum and faceplate retaining much original finish with a rich, dark patina.
This transitional stage of Hardy Brass Perfects having alloy frames as brass reels moved to becoming made completely of alloy is extremely rare to find in a Salmon Perfect size.
